The Christmas Cookies

Sophie loved to bake cookies. One Christmas, she decided to make special cookies for her friends at school. She wanted them to be the best cookies ever.

She went to the kitchen and got out all the ingredients. She mixed flour, sugar, butter, and eggs in a big bowl. She added chocolate chips and nuts. The dough looked perfect.

She put the cookies in the oven and set the timer. While she waited, she cleaned the kitchen.

But then, she smelled something burning. "Oh no!" she cried.

She opened the oven and saw that the cookies were black.

She felt tears in her eyes. "I ruined the cookies," she said.

Her mother came in. "What happened?" she asked.

"I burned the cookies," Sophie said. "Now I have nothing to give my friends."

Her mother hugged her. "Don't give up," she said. "Let's try again."

They started over. They measured the ingredients carefully. Sophie mixed them well.

"Now, let's set the timer correctly," her mother said.

Sophie watched the oven carefully this time. When the timer rang, she took the cookies out.

They were golden brown and smelled wonderful.

"These are perfect!" Sophie exclaimed.

She let them cool and then decorated them with icing and sprinkles. She wrapped them in pretty boxes and tied them with ribbons.

The next day at school, Sophie gave the cookies to her friends.

"Thank you, Sophie!" they said. "These are the best cookies ever!"

Sophie felt proud and happy.

When she got home, she found a small gift on the table.

"To Sophie, for your hard work and kindness," the note said.

She opened it and found a new cookbook full of cookie recipes.

"Thank you, Mom!" Sophie hugged her.

She learned that patience and effort make good things happen, and sharing makes Christmas special.
