Lila was a girl from Thailand. She moved to England with her family. It was December, and snow covered the streets. Lila had never seen snow before.
One day, her new friend Emily asked, "Are you excited for Christmas?"
"What is Christmas?" Lila asked.
Emily smiled. "Come to my house tomorrow, and I will show you."
The next day, Lila went to Emily's house. There was a big green tree inside. It was covered with lights and shiny balls.
"This is a Christmas tree," Emily said. "We decorate it every year."
They hung ornaments on the tree together. Then they helped Emily's mother bake cookies. The house smelled sweet and warm.
In the evening, they sang songs called carols. Emily's father played the guitar. Lila learned a song called "Silent Night."
"This is fun!" Lila said. "I like Christmas."
On Christmas morning, Lila woke up early. Under the tree, she found a small gift with her name on it.
She opened it and found a teddy bear. There was a note: "To Lila, welcome to your first Christmas! Love, Emily and family."
Lila smiled. She felt warm and happy inside. She decided to make a Thai dish to share with Emily's family.
That evening, they all enjoyed the meal together.
"Thank you, Lila," Emily's mother said. "This is delicious."
Lila was happy to share her culture too.
From then on, Lila knew that Christmas was about sharing and kindness.
