Loy Krathong – The English Room

LOY KRATHONG ลอยกระทง

Loy Krathong Day is one of the most popular festivals in Thailand. It is celebrated every year on the full moon day in the 12th lunar month. This is usually in November. We do it to thank the Goddess of Water. “Loy” means “to float” and a “krathong” is a lotus-shaped boat made of banana leaves. People put a candle, three incense sticks, some flowers and coins in the Krathong. We then pray and push away our krathongs on the canals or rivers. We believe the krathongs will take away our bad luck.
